Cricket Shropshire has set new provisional dates for this summer's inaugural Shropshire Women's Hundred competition.
The brand new competition featuring the cream of Women & Girls' cricketing talent in the county was due to be held in mid-summer, until the Covid-19 pandemic intervened.
Lead Officer Steve Reese said: "We are pleased to confirm that we have new dates for the re-arranged inaugural Shropshire Women’s Hundred.
"Due to Covid-19 we were forced to postpone the competition.
"With hopes raised that there maybe some cricket this Summer, the Board have decided to get some dates in the calendar."
The schedule will change slightly – it will still be a round robin competition between the four sides plus a 3rd/4th play off and Final.
Originally this was going to be over four separate mid-week dates but will now be two rounds of matches on each day.
It will be played at Frankwell in Shrewsbury where there are two pitches on Sunday, August 23 and Sunday, September 6, starting at 11am.
Reserve dates have also been booked just in case the weather intervenes.
Those are Sunday, September 20 & 27.
Steve added: "This was going to be our showcase event for the Women & Girls game and are really pleased to have some dates confirmed to give us the chance of still delivering this event.”
Cricket Shropshire's Women & Girls Director Trudie Bloor, will now coordinate the activities with the Ambassadors, which start with the delivery of the new kit in the next 10 days.
The regional teams are Southern Steamers, Northern Force, Severn Storm and Iron Maidens with the squads having already been selected, with a few 'wild card' picks to add.
Steve added: "Huge thanks again to Strategic Leisure who have agreed to sponsor the competition and we can now hopefully look forward to seeing some cricket action this summer."
The competition is, of course, subject to appropriate Government guidance and will be run in accordance with any ECB guidelines, with the health and safety of everyone involved paramount.
