What are your primary roles with SCB?
Promote good practice in safeguarding and protecting children in their club, working with clubs to create a welcoming and child centred environment with a proactive safeguarding culture.
To act as a source of advice on current best practice and provide support to the Club Safeguarding Officers on safeguarding issues and procedures
To ensure matters of a possible child safeguarding nature are reported/referred appropriately to the ECB and/or Statutory Agencies in a timely fashion, and in accordance with ECB procedures.
Compliance within clubs and SCB, ie: Coaches, Club Safeguarding Officers, roles requiring a ECB DBS check.
What cricketing positives did you take from 2020 despite the best efforts of Covid?
Seeing how clubs around the county coped with the restrictions. Taking the restrictions seriously and the team spirit was amazing to see.
What are the plans for post lockdown in your area of expertise ahead of the season?
I will be undertaking Safe hands training in May with the ECB, so I can deliver the course to all Club Safeguarding Officers moving forward.
Attending the ECB Safeguarding conference in October.
Ensuring DBS checks have been completed keeping our sport a safer place for all.
Will you be playing cricket this season, and if so, who for?
May do a few softball tournaments if time allows (if only for the wine) for Whitchurch Cricket Club
Any tips or hints you can pass on to help others?
If struggling please ask for help. Mental Health has been in the news lately and is just as important as our physical help. Look after each other and be kind, you never know what others are struggling with behind the smiles.
