Cricket Shropshire's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy is the product of many months of work and discussions to address issues within the game
Although a rural County with a peaceful image, Shropshire does have its issues which are now being tackled head on. Cricket Shropshire began the journey in November 2020 working with their stakeholder groups, which included the Association of Cricket Officials, Coaches Association, Disability Club and the local Leagues
The group also included the Directors responsible for Women & Girls and Safeguarding.
Once everyone was on board it was agreed to approach this with a top-down education programme.
Cricket Shropshire purchased more than 200 licences for an on-line EDI awareness course which was distributed to Board Directors, Stakeholder executives, Club Chairs and Safeguarding Officers.
The Safeguarding umbrella was used to manage this process and it was expanded to include CSE (Child Sexual Exploitation), CCE (Child Criminal Exploitation), PREVENT.
A mix of all topics was used to deliver to different audiences, which included County Age Groups squads, County Club, County Academy, Officials and by far the biggest impact was to the club captains' group.
The delivery had a big imact and had local themes which made it more relevant because of the preconception of Shropshire being a quiet County. Scrape the surface and there are numerous issues across all subject matter presented.
Cricket Shropshire and all of its partners from the top down are committed to make the game welcoming and a game for all.
The Shropshire Cricket Charter is being released in early July at all venues across the County.
This programme of education and discussion workshops will continue throughout the Autumn/Winter 2022/23.
