David White – Director Recreational Cricket
• Give a brief description of your responsibilities within your role at the Shropshire Cricket Board
Responsibility for clubs and leagues
• What do you enjoy most about your role with the SCB?
Talking all things cricket with such a wide group of players, officials, coaches, groundsmen, and administrators
• Tell us a little about your educational/professional background before joining the SCB
I studied Recreation Management and Sports Studies at college. Since then I have been a Civil Servant all my working life. I have had many different roles especially designing and delivering big change projects and programmes.
• Other than Cricket what are your other hobbies and interests?
I have always been keen to have a go at most sports. I do still enjoy skiing (very gently) and swimming. I do love books – especially cricket books. Collecting Wisden Cricketers’ Almanacks has been a passion for the last 40 years or so
• What do you consider to be your greatest achievement within Cricket?
Being involved at Madeley CC both as Secretary and Chairman and helping them develop and improve as a club
• Who is your favourite cricketer?
So many to choose from but watching Kumar Sangakkara score the most beautiful hundred I have ever seen puts him at the top of the list
• What did you want to be when growing up?
Astronaut was the early choice – I loved the Apollo missions. I recall going to a careers evening with my parents when I was about 13 or 14. The advisor thought I would be suited to the Civil Service and gave us all the information. I spent the journey home telling my parents and that no way was I ever going to be a Civil Servant

• What is your lifetime ambition?
Having the courage to change the things that need changing

Make All Stars Cricket compulsory in all infant and junior schools

To increase participation and inclusiveness for all ages, abilities, male or female and to help clubs be sustainable for the future
