Congratulations to three Shropshire students who have been selected to play in this year’s prestigious Bunbury Festival.
Allrounders Jack Home and Theo Wylie from Shrewsbury School have both been selected to represent the Midlands Under 15s at this year’s festival at Loughborough’s Cricket Performance Centre in the first week of August.
They will be joined by fellow Shrewsbury School student Jameel Proctor who has been selected to represent the North at the festival – he is part of the Lancashire Emerging Player Programme.
The Bunbury Festival features the cream of Under 15s cricketing talent in the country playing for four regional sides and is a key stepping stone for the selection of England representative teams in the future.
The annual festival organised by philanthropist and cricket fanatic David English has helped discover many talented cricketers over the past 30 plus years.
More than 300 Bunburys have gone onto play First Class cricket – and over 60 have represented England.
Jack Home who plays for Shifnal and Theo Wylie (Moddershall) both played in a warm up match against the North of England at Whitchurch on last week.
In an exciting game, the Midlands came out on top by four wickets chasing a North total of 218 all out.
Both Home and Wylie took a wicket apiece while Wylie ran out Archie Vaughan, son of former England skipper Michael with a direct hit. Home top scored with an undefeated 53 off 71 balls.
They are playing another warm-up match against the North at Ormskirk C.C this week ahead of the festival at Loughborough.
The festival returns this year after being cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
