Great to see three teams step up to Hardball competition
Congratulations to Quatt, who claimed the Strategic Leisure Women’s Wrekin Indoor League title to cap a busy winter of indoor action for Cricket Shropshire.
The competition, held in March and April, saw a record nine teams enter – with a number of softball teams deciding to give hard ball a go for the first time.
Clubs represented in the competition were Forton, St Georges, Wellington, Shifnal, Sentinel, Oswestry, Shelton and a Renegades team in addition to champions Quatt.
The teams were split into three groups for the initial four group games, and then put into gold, silver and bronze groups based on where they finished in their initial mini league.
Women & Girls Recreational Officer Katie Rushton said: “All of the matches were closely contested and played in fantastic spirits.
“Special mention to the three softball teams which decided to progress into hardball – Oswestry, Shelton and the Renegades ladies.
“It was fantastic to see the ladies give the hardball format ago and compete against established hardball teams.
“The support offered by the more experienced teams was great to see as they work to help the softball ladies progress and aid their development.”
After the second round of mini-league games, the top team from each progressed to Finals Night – Quatt, Shifnal and Forton – with Quatt winning both their games to come out on top.
Katie added: “A big thank you to Wrekin College for their support in hosting the league and Dave and Ellen Hallsall for their hard work and officiating support.
“It was great to see the league up and running again after the Covid lockdowns, with so many teams wanting to participate.”
