Latest round up from Presentation Evening
For our second batch of winners from the Cricket Shropshire Presentation Evening at Telford Golf and Country Club, the focus switches to the Boys Age Group winners.
After a truncated season in 2020 due to Covid, and a restricted winter programme due to lockdowns, it was good to get a full season of action in 2021.
And there some great performances along the way.
Pathway and Coach Education Manager Ed Ashlin paid tribute to all the youngsters who had played a part in 2021, and thanked all the coaches, parents and carers, and clubs who have provided venues for the Age Group sides to use during the season.
Under 11s – Will Parkinson Witte
Will had an excellent first season with Shropshire. He made a fifty in his first match against Worcestershire and was a consistent run scorer throughout the season.
He also kept wicket with composure and skill, particularly standing up to the stumps. Will also shows a determination to listen, learn and further develop his skills which a really good sign for the future.
Under 12s – Finley Jones
Finley had a busy summer of cricket and excelled batting in the top order, making two fifties. He shows a determination to bat for long periods and is very positive against spin bowling.
He also played up an age group at various times and did so with distinction, composure and confidence.
Unfortunately, Finley was unable to attend on the night, so we will arrange a presentation for him at a later date.
Under 13s – Thomas Jaques
Thomas is a stylish left-handed batter who exudes calmness when at the crease.
He batted in a number of different roles and positions in the order, scoring two fifties – including a match winning 61 against Worcestershire.
He is also an excellent athlete and plays a number of sports to a very high level which shows in his all-round fielding and wicket-keeping capabilities.
Under 14s – Yumeth Athauda
Yumeth is a player who works tirelessly on all aspects of his game and this is really beginning to show in his development.
He batted in the top order and scored four fifties at an average of just under 40 with a high score of 78 against Worcestershire.
He laid solid platforms throughout the year and has the ability to concentrate for long periods. His contribution really helped this age group to improve as they progressed through the season.
Under 15s – William Jenkins
Will captained the Under 15s to the top of their group which included Lancashire, Derbyshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire – a fantastic achievement.
As a player he showed that he can be a genuine all-rounder. He started the season well with the bat with a number of significant contributions and finished the season superbly with the ball, finishing with 16 wickets - including three 5-wicket hauls.
As a leader, he managed the team with composure, understanding and no little skill.
Under 18s – Matthew Lamb
Matthew excelled in his first year in the Under 18s age group, as an Under 16.
It is exciting for the County that he has two more years of development at this age group and we look forward to working with him to further to continue his progress.
He shows great determination to cash in and make big scores when he gets in.
He scored two centuries (both against Worcestershire) and one fifty in a summer full of runs.
He was rewarded by being involved with Shropshire County Cricket Club’s Academy team and also as part of the 1st XI squad to gain further experience which was fantastic to see.
Matthew was also the overall Boys Age Group player of the year.
