Cricket Shropshire’s autumn indoor programme has been launched with the first assessment sessions for Boys Under 11s.
The sessions, held at Sundorne Games Hall in Shrewsbury, are part of a new look for Shropshire Age Group trials process for younger players ahead of the 2021 season.
For boys and girls in both the Under 11s and Under 13s age groups there will be a four-week skills/assessment programme instead of the two-hour trial session for these ages held in previous years.
Cricket Shropshire’s Performance Manager Ed Ashlin said: “We have decided to change the assessment process for the younger age groups going forward.
“The rationale for amendments to assessment process is to ensure the assessment of players is thorough and we are able to observe players in a range of scenarios.
“The skills and assessment programme will also facilitate the development of junior players’ skills at a time where junior club activity is likely to curtail.”
Once the assessment sessions are completed, players will then be shortlisted to attend further County & District observation alongside current County Age Group players to finalise the squads for the Winter Programme which will start in January.
These Under 11s Boys sessions will be followed by sessions for Under 13 Boys and the Under 11, 13 and 15 Girls after half-term.
In addition, there will the usual two-hour trial sessions for the older Age Groups ahead of the Age Group Winter Programme from January.
All sessions are being run in line with the latest Covid-19 pandemic guidelines from the ECB and the Government.
