Sportivate
Sportivate: Sport England initiative to increase Adult Participation. Sportivate gives participants aged between 14 and 25 the chance to receive six to eight weeks of coaching in a sport of their choice. The programme will be delivered through the network of 49 CSPs working with a range of local partners.
The programme is aimed at those who are not currently choosing to participate in sport in their own time, or are doing so for a very limited amount of time – and will support them to continue playing sport in their community after the six weeks is up. During the six weeks a participant may work towards an event or personal challenge. Sportivate will be fully inclusive and target participants across this group, including young people who have a disability, both males and females and participants from BME groups.
Sportivate will ensure that up to 300,000 participants in the 14-25 age range complete coaching courses over the four years, with at least two in five of them (120,000 participants) continuing to play sport regularly. Other outcomes will be:

Sportivate Case Study – SCB women’s and girls Easy Cricket
During the 2012 summer the SCB secured funding with support from the Shropshire County Sports Partnership to run an 8 week project for females aged 14+. Delivered SCB County age group excellence coach, Louise Pugh, the women who took part were introduced to the ‘Easy Cricket’ format of the game aimed at providing an informal means of getting newcomers involved in the game.
Those who attended the sessions were provided with both technical cricket advice but more importantly, fun, fast paced and fully inclusive small sided games that allowed maximum participation. The 12 females who attended the sessions now have the skills and enthusiasm to join local clubs and have been inspired to take their experiences on to the next level!
Wrekin Indoor Cricket League
To support the development of increasing adult participation for cricket in Shropshire, the SCB has recently created a brand new indoor cricket competition involving clubs from all across the county. The league made its debut at the start of October 2011, with Woore CC the winners of the league in its first year.
The Wrekin Winter Indoor League takes place at Wrekin College during the winter months (October – December) in the indoor sports centre. The competition will is administrated by the SCB and is similar in format to the successful indoor competition previously held at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre. In 2011, 10 teams competed across two pools, with the league winners playing off in the finals day. The overall winner then goes on to play other Shropshire indoor league winners to create a semi final and overall Shropshire champion.
The league provides opportunities for further cricket over the winter and also hopefully to promote further adult participation at clubs. Although played as a competition, the league will encourage all abilities to take part and will strictly promote the MCC’s key message of the 'Spirit of Cricket'.
Play Cricket league details are now available online. If your club is interested in this opportunity in the forthcoming seasons please contact us. The rules for the competition can be found in the download section at the top this page. - (TOP)

Easy Cricket – a new, fast paced, fun and informal
version of the game!
Easy Cricket is just as the name suggests – a brand new format of the gamed aimed at informal participation with none of the barriers which can often restrict people from taking part in the traditional version of the game.
The idea behind the format is that participation is to be open to all players, regardless of ability and knowledge of the game, and also to provide a fun and inclusive version of cricket without the strings attached to being a member of a club.
Whether you are an individual looking to try the game for the first time, part of an organisation or company that want to create team building/morale boosting opportunities for your colleagues or employees... Easy Cricket offers something for all! You can register for free kit to help delivery the sessions as well as receiving activator cards with game ideas and formats to suit all abilities.
The SCB are looking to engage with anyone adults (aged 16+) who would like to take on the Easy Cricket concept. If you are interested in becoming an Easy Cricket ‘activator’ then please get in touch with us (contact details at the top of the page) to find out more or visit the ECB website.
